Flyleds DIY Kit: LED strobe and position lights

(7 customer reviews)

Get premium-quality LED lighting for less with these DIY kits. Build your own wingtip LED strobe and position lighting in a few hours for way less!

DIY Kit- Built by you. You need to solder all of the components onto the boards. It should only take you 4 to 5 hours to complete. You only need basic hand tools like flush or side cutters and pliers (~$10 each), but you must have a temperature-controlled soldering iron with a fine point tip. We have included a length of solder in the kit for you.

Step by step instructions are provided, so even if you’re a beginner at soldering, we’ll walk you through every step.

These lights are designed to exceed the minimum anti-collision lighting requirements for certified aircraft; you will be seen with Flyleds’ LED position and strobe lights. The strobes are switch-configurable for several flash patterns. In addition, an optional WigWag mode is available, which gives a longer flash duration and improves your visibility to others during daytime flight.

450grams/16 oz total weight. (That’s only 200 grams/7 oz per wing!)

The kit includes circuit boards for the left and right wings, the controller board, and all of the parts required to make it bright!

You can complement this kit with our LED tail strobe. Already have wingtip landing lights installed? Sub out for our Skinny boards in your kit and keep your setup intact.

The kit worked out great for me. The instructions were easy to follow and everything turned out as expected. This is my second experimental build. I “rolled my own” position lights on the first build and went with the Flyled position & strobe kit for the second. Cost wise, I came out better with the kit. Quality components – good instructions… A happy customer!

Bought the Nav’s and Strobes for my RV7. I got the skinny boards due to having some HID landing lights mounted in the wing tips.

First off the instructions are great! While I did build the airplane, I have not done a lot of soldering. The instructions were super clear and I am a lot better solderer after doing the lighting kit. I also liked the mix of humor thrown in there. It was a fun project.

Then after the kit is done, you will have a really great lighting system for your airplane. A few weeks ago I asked our control tower if they could see my nav and strobes while taking the runway. They could see them. They were easily over 1/2 mile away from my position. That was in bright day light!

I’m not a big fan of writing feedback, but I’m glad I put these lights in. My electrical load is down quite a bit from my old lighting.

Looking forward to getting the LED landing lights when they are available.

  4. Rick S.

I recently purchased a standard kit flyled’s kit and tail strobe for my RV9 build from flyboys accessories. The kit arrived as ordered, the kit itself had great instructions and was straight forward to assemble. I did have a minor issue with the strobe board, but an email response was provided within 24hrs. This is a great option for any home builder who wants to save some serious dollars, great product support, great instructions, and really bright lights!!

I needed new nav/strobe lights on my RV-10. The do it myself project was fun and not hard. I chose the skinny option as I may want to add lights in the tips later. They are very bright! I like them.

  6. Gregory M.

As advertised, really bright! I’ve done very little soldering and I thought assembly was not difficult.

  7. Mike H.

Good quality parts and super bright lights! Blake was very helpful!
